Cleveland County Sheriff Sheriff’s Office is seeing a rise in fraud cases requesting the purchase of gift cards to resolve an outstanding warrant. As Christmas time quickly approaches Cleveland County Investigators are noticing a rise in telephone scams and fraud cases. Scammers are spoofing the Sheriff’s main telephone number and using the names of current employees to scam individuals into purchasing gift cards to prevent being arrested for an outstanding warrant.
“We want our citizens to know we will never call you to ask for any form of payment over the phone.” Sheriff Chris Amason says. “Additionally, we do not call individuals to inform them of their warrant status.”If you feel you have been a victim of a scam, call our office at (405)-701-8916 to report the crime.
